hello world
I've decided to give Ghost a try. Let's see how it goes...
First use experience? Not easy at all. Installing Ghost offline to run on your own server could definitely be made easier. On top of that, once you think you're ready to go, all you see in front of you is a blank white space.
I'm no coder by all means although I'm always keen to push the envelope. And it ain't easy. Using Ghost requires some understanding of Markdown, which is essentially a text-to-HTML conversion tool for web writers.
Markdown allows you to write using an easy-to-read, easy-to-write plain text format, then convert it to structurally valid XHTML (or HTML). The good thing is, at least the syntax is pretty easy to grasp. Although going in to Ghost and face with blank canvas is rather intimidating.
As it goes, in the past few days I've also learned to customize my site. I used Sublime to manually edit the .hbs files that allows some changes to the site structures and appearance. To my frustration, since Ghost is still pretty new, I found it pretty buggy at times. Many simple syntaxes have yet to be covered in Markdown, which made me resigned to use some ol' skool html syntax instead. Yea, so much for trying to keep my code clean.
So why did I choose to use Ghost to put together this site if it sounds so cumbersome, you asked? I don't know. Call it curiosity maybe...?
And the learning continues...
